Thanksgiving Day, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, is a national holiday rooted giving thanks for all the blessings of the year’s harvest. Thanksgiving has both religious and secular connotations. The religious aspect of the day is reflected through offerings, adoration, and praise for the good harvest and the blessing for the good fortune of the entire year.
For many Americans, Thanksgiving Day is for family gathering and feasting on turkey and other staples, football games, and parades. It also marks the beginning of the holiday season.
The centerpiece of any Thanksgiving dinner is the turkey. It had been served on the Thanksgiving table even before President Lincoln nationalized the holiday in 1863. Many people colloquially refer to Thanksgiving Day as Turkey Day.
Turkey is rich in nutrients and is regarded as a healthy food. Turkey is packed with protein and B vitamins. And did you know that dark turkey meat has more vitamins than it’s white counterpart?
Thanksgiving dinner would not be complete without cranberry sauce, dressing or stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, and pumpkin pie. And pumpkin pie is the traditional Thanksgiving dessert. It is sweet pie with spiced pumpkin custard filling.
However you choose to celebrate Thanksgiving, we hope that you enjoy the time with your friends and family. From all of us at Wishing U Well, happy Thanksgiving!
