If you’re looking for your next favorite nutritional bar, you’ll find it here! I’ll discuss my personal favorites, as well as different bars that are perfect as meal replacements, pre/post workout, and for sustained energy.
First off, any great food bar needs to have a certain nutritional profile. This usually includes some form of protein; the closer you can get to 20 grams, the better. This also means at least a few grams of fiber, and preferably not too much sugar. You may think carbs are a problem, but they give us energy, especially when combined with protein.
One excellent nutritional snack is offered by Lenny & Larry’s. It’s called the complete cookie, and it boasts 16 grams of protein! While this isn’t technically a “protein bar” it’s probably the healthiest and tastiest cookie you’ll ever eat! What makes it so great? It offers 8 grams of fiber, is vegan, kosher, and free from dairy, eggs and GMO’s. These cookies are fresh baked and come in many delectable flavors such as oatmeal raisin, snickerdoodle, and peanut butter, but my favorite is the double chocolate-so yummy! They have a nice texture: it’s soft, gooey if you warm them up, and they kind of just melt in your mouth. Next time your sweet tooth is calling, opt for one of these!
Another brand offering some awesome options is Clif Bar. They have a few different categories of bars to fit any need. The first is their Builder’s bars. These are loaded with 20 grams of protein, vitamins and minerals, and are designed to work as hard as you do. This bar is a bit sweet, and can be heavy, however, if you’re in need of carbs and sugar after a workout, it’s a great option. Offered in chocolate mint, chocolate hazelnut, chocolate peanut butter and vanilla almond. My first choice would be vanilla almond.
Next is Clif Bar’s line of Trail Mix Bars. These are gluten free, low glycemic, and low sodium, and they’re yummy! As far as consistency these are crunchy, nutty, light and fruity! My fave is dark chocolate cherry almond. It’s gooey and delivers that delicious balance of chocolate and fruit. They also offer coconut almond peanut, dark chocolate almond sea salt, and many others. These are great anytime of day!
Clif Bar’s line of Luna Bars provides 4 core nutrients: folic acid, iron, calcium and vitamin d. They have 9-12 grams of protein and are deliciously gluten free! Clif Bar designed their line of Luna bars specifically for women! These are great because they bring a balance of crunchiness, softness and sweetness. Some of the flavors are lemon zest, iced oatmeal raisin, honey salted peanut, mint chocolate and more, so you’re sure to find one that hits the spot.
Kit’s Organic is yet another line offered by Clif Bar. The best part about these: they’re gluten, dairy and soy free! These bars are a great energy source if you hit an afternoon slump. They’re also moist and soft, with only 6 ingredients! My first pick? Dark chocolate almond coconut.
